quirky fox companions

Hand-knit in Maine, each fox is a little bit weird, a little bit wise and entirely one-of-a-kind.

Our
Story

PXL_20251019_183013084_edited.jpg

Little Squirrel Knitting Co. was born from a love of animals, the stories they never asked me to tell, and the desire to see them in artisanal wool sweaters.

I create heirloom fiber art for collectors, animal lovers, and admirers of thoughtful, detailed craftsmanship.

My hope is that every critter becomes more than something you own—it becomes a tiny companion, a conversation piece, and a small work of art with a story that hits your funny bone just right.

How to Collect

Little Squirrel Knitting Co. is a one-person studio located on the coast of Maine. I personally design, knit, sew, stuff, embroider, assemble, photograph, write each critter's story, package every order, and ship each piece.  No production line, no outsourcing, and no machine knitting—just one maker creating small pieces of collectible fiber art.

Creating this way takes time, but it's also what makes every critter special. Rather than constantly trying to keep items in stock, I release small collections throughout the year as they're finished. I'd rather make a handful of pieces I'm really proud of than rush the process.

Thank you for supporting handmade art and the slower pace that comes with it.

Spring Collection
Mid-March

A seasonal online release featuring a small collection of new critters. When the collection goes live, each piece is available to purchase through my Etsy shop.

Summer Collection
Early July

Instead of an online release, you'll find me at the Harbor Arts Craft Show in Camden, Maine, where my newest critters are displayed and available to purchase in person.

Fall Collection
Early October

My largest collection of the year also debuts at the Harbor Arts Craft Show in Camden, Maine. It's always one of my favorite weekends, and I love meeting collectors in person.

Holiday Collection
Mid-December

A cozy online release featuring winter-inspired critters, available through my Etsy shop.

Surprise Mini-Drops

Throughout the year, I occasionally release a very small batch of special creations—bears, rabbits, sardines, raccoons, or whatever animal I think needs a sweater. These surprise mini drops usually include only a handful of one-of-a-kind pieces and are available to purchase through my Etsy shop.

the materials

-----------------------------------------------------

Every Little Squirrel Knitting Co. critter begins with carefully chosen natural fibers. I spend as much time selecting my yarns as I do deciding who each critter will become.

The critters themselves are knit from hand-dyed 100% fine organic merino wool from an indie dyer in Northern Colorado. Would you believe it's another woman-owned company and it's called Little Squirrel Yarn and that we've become pen pals? (You should because it's true).

Each tiny sweater is knit from the same kinds of luscious fibers I'd choose for a sweater I'd make for myself: authentic 100% Shetland wool from Scotland's Shetland Islands (the foxes insisted and I didn't argue), as well as carefully selected alpaca, mohair, yak, and other natural animal fibers. Every sweater is designed individually by me, making each one as unique as the critter wearing it.
